29th January 2025 – (Buenos Aires) Coinbase (Nasdaq: COIN), a leading cryptocurrency exchange, announced on 28th January that it has secured regulatory approval to operate in Argentina, marking a significant milestone in its global expansion. The firm received Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) registration from Argentina’s National Securities Commission (CNV), allowing it to legally offer services in a country where cryptocurrency has become an integral part of the financial landscape.

Argentina, home to an estimated five million daily cryptocurrency users, represents one of the world’s most dynamic markets for digital assets. Coinbase aims to leverage its secure platform and educational initiatives to address the country’s ongoing economic instability and provide tools to support financial independence.

The company’s operations in Argentina will be overseen by Matías Alberti, a fintech expert with experience at firms such as Buenbit and Clara. Fabio Plein, Coinbase’s Director for the Americas, praised Alberti’s expertise, stating: “Matías brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the local market. We’re confident in his leadership as we work to bring crypto services to millions of Argentinians.”

A recent survey commissioned by Coinbase highlights the strong appeal of cryptocurrency in Argentina. According to the findings, 87% of respondents believe crypto can enhance financial independence, while 79% expressed interest in receiving salaries in digital assets.

Beyond its entry into the Argentine market, Coinbase is focused on empowering users through education. The company emphasised that this launch is not merely an expansion but a commitment to equipping Argentinians with the knowledge and tools required to navigate the crypto landscape. “By providing a trusted platform and fostering financial education, we aim to help Argentinians overcome economic challenges and build a more secure and prosperous future,” the firm stated.

Coinbase’s entry into Argentina underscores its mission to advance economic freedom globally. By prioritising security, compliance, and user empowerment, the company seeks to address Argentina’s financial challenges while positioning itself as a trusted partner in the region’s growing crypto ecosystem.
