15th December 2024 – (Hong Kong) A fire broke out at Tuen Mun Typhoon Shelter, just off the coast near Sam Shing Estate, at 5.58am today. The incident reportedly affected three small boats and a 10-metre-long vessel.

Upon receiving the alarm, firefighters assessed the situation and classified the incident as a second-level fire emergency. They deployed a smoke helmet team and activated two hoses, one from the shore and the other from a fireboat, successfully extinguishing the flames.
It is understood that the fire ignited while a boat owner was preparing to go fishing. While refuelling his small craft, an accidental spark is believed to have caused the blaze, which quickly spread to nearby vessels. The boat owner, witnessing the unfolding danger, jumped into the water to escape and swam back to shore to report the incident.
Upon the arrival of rescue personnel the boat owner was provided with a blanket and rested in a fire truck. Fortunately, he sustained no injuries and did not require hospitalisation. During the incident, divers were also deployed to search for potential casualties, but no additional injuries were reported.
