25th March 2025 – (Seoul) The family of the late actress Kim Sae Ron has spoken out regarding serious allegations surrounding her personal and financial challenges, following claims made by her alleged ex-boyfriend, referred to as “K.” On 25th March 2025, Kwon Young Chan, head of the Korea Celebrity Suicide Prevention Association, represented the family in refuting allegations that they were the primary reason for Kim’s tragic death.
In a conversation with No Cut News, Kwon dismissed K’s accusations of familial neglect during Kim Sae Ron’s difficult times. The family also presented a hospital bill receipt, suggesting that there might have been financial mismanagement by Kim’s former agency and manager.
Kwon hinted at suspicions that the agency may have attempted to exploit Kim Sae Ron’s financial situation during her struggles. Reports indicate that Kim faced suicidal thoughts and underwent multiple emergency procedures, with her former agency allegedly covering the hospital expenses amounting to KRW 5 million (approximately US$3,410). Kwon stated, “Kim Sae Ron attempted suicide nearly 20 times, with her parents taking her to the hospital on 18 of those occasions. On the day YouTuber Lee Jin Ho claimed the agency covered the surgery costs,” he expressed concerns over the exorbitant medical billing for emergency treatments related to suicide attempts, particularly given South Korea’s comprehensive health insurance.
Medical records under the name Kim Ah Im (a pseudonym for Kim Sae Ron) confirm her hospitalisation but lack detailed expense breakdowns, listing her as a “100% insurance-covered” patient, which implies that most costs should have been fully covered.
Further investigation revealed complexities in how the payment was processed. Although the agency CEO’s credit card was used for the hospital transaction, records indicate that a portion of the KRW 5 million was paid using Kim’s mother’s credit card. Kwon remarked, “200,000 to 400,000 won is sufficient for wrist sutures and treatment. Kim Sae Ron’s family covered an amount within this range. Even for non-covered surgeries at plastic surgery clinics, the maximum would be 1 to 2 million won, which raises concerns about the total billed.”
The family has made several attempts to contact Kim Sae Ron’s former manager, identified only as “B,” but he has remained unreachable. Manager B was known to have played a significant role in Kim’s personal life and has been referenced in voice recordings regarding her alleged marriage, which were recently highlighted by entertainment journalist and YouTuber Lee Jin Ho.
