3rd August 2026 – (Hong Kong) Motorists were left frustrated after becoming stuck for up to two hours in severe congestion inside the underground car park at Cityplaza in Taikoo Shing.
Numerous posts appeared on social media on 2nd August from drivers appealing for help, saying they were unable to exit the shopping centre’s basement car park due to gridlock. One motorist who attempted to leave from the B3 level reported spending between 90 minutes and two hours inching towards the exit. Although traffic officers were eventually deployed to assist, many vehicles remained immobilised for a prolonged period.
Those affected voiced anger at what they described as a significant waste of time, with several saying they had simply wanted to return home but were instead left stranded underground.
According to multiple accounts, the congestion began when vehicles attempting to enter the car park refused to give way, causing a blockage that extended back through the exit lanes. Some drivers criticised on‑site security staff, accusing them of failing to manage the traffic effectively and allowing queue‑jumping vehicles to worsen the bottleneck.
However, comments circulating online attributed to customer service representatives suggested that heavy rainfall had contributed to the disruption, claiming that adverse weather conditions had hampered efforts to regulate the flow of vehicles.
The situation was further compounded by complaints that parking fees continued to accrue during the delay, with drivers alleging they were charged additional overtime fees despite being unable to leave due to the traffic standstill.
