15th September 2026 – (Hong Kong) Fresh-water supply at Kwai Hing Estate in Kwai Chung remained cut off this afternoon after a pipe leak in the estate’s internal plumbing system, with Water Supplies Department tankers and tanks still serving residents while repairs continued.
The Kwai Tsing District Kwai Hing neighbourhood Care Team posted on Facebook late on 14th September, around 11pm, saying the Water Supplies Department had already sent water tanks and water trucks for residents who needed them. By about 4pm on 15th September the Care Team updated that crews were still racing to fix the pipe, so taps in the estate had not yet been restored.
Sources said the fault was in Kwai Hing Estate’s internal water-supply network — known colloquially as “private pipes” — rather than a main government trunk line outside the estate boundary. That distinction matters for who leads the repair and how long flats may stay dry while temporary points operate in open spaces between the blocks.
Temporary drinking water was staged at several spots listed by the Care Team. A water truck and a tank stood on the open ground opposite the fire-service gate of Hing Lok House. Further tanks were placed on open ground outside the lobbies of Hing Fuk House, Hing Kok House and Hing Yat House, so residents from different towers could fill containers without crossing the whole estate. Those four blocks cover the main residential cluster affected while the private pipework is under repair.
Until mains pressure returns, households face the familiar grind of carrying water for cooking, washing and flushing, and of queuing at the temporary points through the evening of the 14th and into the afternoon of the 15th. The Care Team’s public Facebook posts have been the main running update for neighbours tracking whether the overnight outage had ended by mid-afternoon.
