4th November 2023 – (Seoul) Fan Bingbing, the Chinese actress who temporarily disappeared from the mainland film industry due to a tax evasion scandal, recently made her comeback in a Korean film that challenges same-sex themes and features explicit lesbian scenes. However, footage of these erotic scenes has leaked online, showing intimate moments between the two female leads, including kissing and fondling. Fan Bingbing even allows her co-star to lick her chest and engage in masturbation until climax. Unfortunately, the film’s box office performance and reception in South Korea have fallen short of expectations, indicating that Fan Bingbing’s attempt to reclaim her status may be an uphill battle.
After a long hiatus, the highly anticipated Korean film “Green Night” premiered in South Korea on 1st November. It is scheduled for streaming release at the end of the year and will have a theatrical release in Japan in mid-January next year.
In the film, Fan Bingbing portrays a mainland Chinese immigrant who suffers from long-term domestic abuse. She encounters a green-haired Korean girl, played by Lee Joo-young, and they find solace in each other, leading to explicit lesbian scenes that have become the centre of attention. Recently, a two-minute segment of the film was leaked online, featuring not only their kissing scenes but also explicit fondling of the breasts. Fan Bingbing’s character has her bra pulled down by her co-star and engages in self-stimulation, displaying audaciousness. During the erotic scenes, Fan Bingbing effectively portrays a wide range of emotions, from pleasure to tearful satisfaction.
Fan Bingbing has taken significant risks in her comeback, challenging herself with a Korean-language performance and exploring same-sex themes. However, the film’s performance at the South Korean box office and its critical reception have been lacklustre. On its opening day, the film attracted only 2,329 viewers, placing it at the tenth spot. In terms of ratings on cinema websites, “Green Night” received only a 69% positive rating, which pales in comparison to the success of other Chinese-language films released locally this year.
The response to Fan Bingbing’s comeback film among Chinese internet users has been mixed. Some praise her outstanding acting skills, while others criticize the explicit scenes as mere gimmicks lacking aesthetic appeal. They argue that Fan Bingbing’s involvement in a same-sex film is merely an attempt to cater to the trend of LGBT representation. Overall, it seems that the film has not generated significant buzz for Fan Bingbing’s comeback.
In a recent interview, Fan Bingbing discussed her collaboration with her co-star Lee Joo-young. Despite their short acquaintance and limited English communication, they quickly immersed themselves in their roles, establishing a strong rapport. Fan Bingbing commended the director, Han Shuai, as a powerful individual, and despite it being their first collaboration, they quickly found harmony, making the process smooth and enjoyable. She expressed her desire to use the film to convey a message of bravery and empowerment to oppressed women and to advocate for their voices. In addition to “Green Night,” she also made a special appearance as a villain in the Korean drama “Insider.” When asked about her plans to enter the Korean entertainment industry, Fan Bingbing admitted that discussions were underway but no concrete collaboration plans have been confirmed.
