3rd November 2026 – (Hong Kong) The Transport Department said this morning that Hong Kong’s on-street parking meter system has failed, leaving drivers temporarily unable to use the service while emergency repairs are carried out.
In a notice issued at 9.45am, the department said the meter parking system was out of order and could not provide service for the time being. Engineers were carrying out emergency repairs. It apologised for the inconvenience.
The alert covers the networked roadside meters that regulate short-stay kerbside spaces across the city. When the back-end system is down, motorists typically cannot start a paid session at the roadside units or rely on the usual electronic top-up path that has replaced cash-only poles in recent years.
