2nd November 2026 – (Hong Kong) Singer-actor Ronald Cheng left Wan Chai Family Court looking stern this afternoon after a closed hearing in his divorce proceedings with Sammie Yu, declining to say whether she had asked for higher maintenance as she thanked reporters and said she had nothing further to add.

The 54-year-old remarried Ms Yu in 2011 and the couple have a son and a daughter. Last June he was photographed at the Family Court with his father, Norman Cheng, and later issued a statement confirming that he and Ms Yu were formally divorcing after 13 years of marriage.

Reports later suggested the pair had failed to agree on financial arrangements and had taken the dispute to court, with one claim that Mr Cheng was willing to pay only HK$8,000 a month in maintenance for each child. Outside court on an earlier occasion he called that figure inaccurate reporting, saying he wished to protect the children and family and avoid using public resources, and that with the matter already before the courts he would not say more.

This morning at about 9am the father and son returned to Wan Chai Family Court. Norman Cheng entered first through the main door in a dark suit and tie, calm and polite as he nodded to waiting media before going inside. Ronald Cheng arrived soon after in a seven-seater, wearing a brown suit, blue shirt, striped tie and black mask, and walked into the government building for the closed hearing.

The session ended at about 1pm. Ms Yu left first with her lawyer. Asked whether the day had gone smoothly, she remained composed behind a mask and replied politely: “Thank you for your concern, I have nothing to say, thank you.” Pressed on whether she was satisfied with the maintenance, she again said she appreciated the concern and had nothing she wished to say, then crossed the road with her lawyer and left.

About 15 minutes later Mr Cheng and his father stepped out together. Still in the brown suit and black mask, the singer looked serious. Asked whether Ms Yu had sought a rise — or “top-up” — in maintenance, he gave no direct answer, quickly boarded a waiting white seven-seater with his father and drove away. The closed hearing thus ended as it began for the cameras: brief courtesies from Ms Yu, silence from Mr Cheng on the money question, and a divorce that remains under judicial process.
