1st November 2026 – (Hong Kong) Autumn has been late enough that early November highs still flirt with the thirties — yet the Hong Kong Observatory says the wait for cooler air may end next week, with urban mornings tipped to fall to 22 degrees on Tuesday, 10th November, after the warmest October since records began in 1884.
In a social post today, the Observatory said last month’s average maximum of 30.5 degrees, average temperature of 27.6 degrees and average minimum of 25.8 degrees all set October records. Climate warming, a very strong El Niño, a weaker-than-usual northeast monsoon in October and a stronger-than-normal upper anticyclone over southern China were blamed for the historic heat.
Relief is sketched for later this week into early next. A fresh to strong northeast monsoon is expected to reach the Guangdong coast toward the week’s end, with drier monsoon reinforcement nudging South China temperatures down at the start of next week. The nine-day outlook shows urban minima easing to about 23 degrees from Monday 9th November, then to 22 degrees on Tuesday 10th — while several New Territories spots dip through the twenties to around 19 degrees, including Tseung Kwan O, Ta Kwu Ling and Shek Kong.
Nearer term, an easterly airstream is still affecting the Guangdong coast. Relative humidity over many local places fell to about 60 per cent this afternoon. Tonight should bring cloudy periods; tomorrow morning’s urban minimum is about 26 degrees, a couple of degrees lower in the New Territories, with a mainly fine day peaking near 31 degrees, one or two light rain patches later, and moderate easterlies.
The easterlies now over the coast should ease tomorrow with clearer skies, before another easterly stream turns windier midweek with a shower or two along the South China shore. The Observatory has also raised the wind call for Saturday 7th November to east force 4 to 5, occasionally 6 offshore and up to 7 on high ground. The longer outlook flags windier conditions over the next couple of days and sunny periods on Thursday.
