15th October 2025 – (Hong Kong) Renowned Hong Kong ultramarathon runner Jo Lodder commenced the UNBOUND Ultra-Run today, embarking on a 3,000-kilometer journey from the Great Wall in Beijing to raise funds for programs benefitting individuals with disabilities. Lodder and his team set off from Hong Kong to Beijing last Friday, diligently preparing for this challenging venture. Today marks the start of his arduous odyssey, traversing nine provinces and municipalities across mainland China, with the journey culminating in Hong Kong on 15th December. Lodder’s 60-day mission aims to raise HK$7 million for the Action Asia Foundation (Charity License No: 91/5283), supporting initiatives to empower individuals with disabilities.
Inspired by the resilience of wheelchair users, Lodder symbolically carries their aspirations during his run, accompanied by a support team from Hong Kong, including students from Buddhist Fat Ho Memorial College in Tai O. These students will run 5km daily in solidarity, led by their teacher, ultra-runner Mr. Fan Wing Chun, who will join Lodder for extended stretches. Together, they will transform this journey into a mobile educational experience focused on understanding and supporting individuals with disabilities.
Facing a career-ending injury in 1999 as a former professional jockey, Lodder’s determination to heal and thrive fuels his commitment to advocating for new opportunities for all. The funds raised will enable rehabilitation, job training, mentorship by Paralympians, resilience workshops, and access to sports, health, and nature for individuals with disabilities in Hong Kong.
Speaking from Beijing, Lodder emphasized the broader vision behind the UNBOUND Ultra-Run, transcending the physical distance covered. This mission seeks to redefine the essence of resilience and grit, showcasing the transformative power of sports and individual contribution towards a more inclusive society.
Throughout this journey, Lodder plans to maintain an average of 50km daily, demonstrating perseverance and resilience with sporadic rest days.
Join Lodder and his team on this transformative quest to raise essential funds for people with disabilities, fostering hope, empowerment, and dignity for all. Make every step count towards a more inclusive future by supporting the Action Asia Foundation’s transformative programs.
