23rd February 2021 – (Hong Kong) According to data from the application analytics website, the Android version of “LeaveHomeSafe” app in many countries other than Hong Kong and Macau has the largest download volume under the “health” category.
Most of these countries are from the Pacific and Caribbean island countries, causing many to doubt as to whether the total number of downloads has been fabricated.
Secretary for Innovation and Technology, Alfred Sit explained today that he is not clear about how the apps are ranked, but he emphasised that 97% of the downloads are from Hong Kong, and it is not surprising that 2% to 3% of the downloads are from overseas, because many Hong Kong people are working and studying overseas.
Sit stated in a radio program that the “LeaveHomeSafe” application has been downloaded by about 2.79 million people, of which more than 97% were downloaded in Hong Kong. He believes there are more people who use the related app than those who choose to register their personal data. The app is said to rank first in downloads in many island countries and African countries.
