5th August 2024 – (Jerusalem) Patrick Bet-David, a noted Iranian-American financial analyst and influencer, took to Twitter/X to issue a stern warning about imminent market volatility. His post, which quickly captured the attention of investors and policymakers alike, pointed to “strange events” that could significantly impact global markets as they open tomorrow.
According to Bet-David, several indicators suggest an impending storm in financial circuits. Notably, the Nikkei 225 in Japan is on the brink of recording its largest two-day drop in history, surpassing even the infamous Black Monday crash of 1987. This looming downturn is part of a broader pattern of market instability, with cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum also experiencing steep declines over the past week.
Simultaneously, there are rumblings of geopolitical unrest that could further complicate the global economic landscape. A report from the Walla news site revealed the existence of a fully operational underground bunker in Jerusalem, prepared by the Shin Bet security service. This facility, constructed almost two decades ago, is designed to protect senior Israeli leaders for extended periods during wartime, equipped to withstand a variety of modern weaponry and connected to the Defense Ministry in Tel Aviv.
This revelation comes at a time of heightened tension in the Middle East, with fears of potential attacks on Israel by Hezbollah and Iran escalating rapidly. The bunker’s readiness underscores the serious nature of the threats facing the region, adding another layer of anxiety for global observers.
In the financial sphere, Bet-David’s commentary also highlighted significant movements by major figures in the investment world. Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, for instance, has reportedly liquidated $75.5 billion worth of stocks, including halving its stake in Apple. This strategic shift has resulted in Berkshire Hathaway amassing a record cash pile of $276.9 billion, signalling caution amid market uncertainty.
Moreover, there are unverified trends indicating an increase in the purchase of military stocks, suggesting that some investors are anticipating or reacting to the potential for increased defence spending. This speculative activity, while not fully confirmed, points to the nervous undercurrent running through financial markets.
Adding to the complexity, there are discussions that the Federal Reserve may consider cutting interest rates by half a point next month. This potential move is seen as an attempt to stabilise the markets and mitigate the impacts of what Bet-David describes as a massive impending stock market loss in August.
