3rd November 2026 – (Hong Kong) The Government’s parking meter system malfunctioned this morning and was returned to normal by early afternoon, ending an interruption that lasted about four hours. The Transport Department said the fault began at 8.20am and full service resumed at 12.15pm, adding there is no evidence at this stage to suggest the system was attacked.
The department said the operator completed urgent repair work to restore services and has been instructed to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and submit a report to prevent any recurrence. The case will also be reported to the Digital Policy Office.
During the outage, on‑site checks across several districts found a mixed picture, with some meters operating as usual while others were out of service. At one point, the Transport Department’s mobile application indicated that all roadside meter bays were temporarily unavailable.
