3rd May 2026 – (Hong Kong) A fire that broke out at a scrap metal yard in Tuen Mun on Saturday evening was largely brought under control within an hour, with no casualties reported. Emergency services received multiple calls at 5.59pm on 3rd May reporting a suspected blaze at the site on Tsing Yick Road. Thick plumes of smoke billowed into the sky, while a strong burning smell spread through the surrounding area. Firefighters upgraded the incident to a No.2 alarm due to the intensity of the flames. Crews deployed two hoses and two breathing apparatus teams to tackle the fire, and a firefighting robot was also sent in to assist operations.
The yard is understood to cover nearly 10,000 square feet, with the affected area spanning approximately 400 to 500 square feet. By shortly before 7pm, the flames had been largely extinguished. Fire crews continued to spray water to cool the site and prevent any flare‑ups.
Preliminary information suggests the blaze may have been caused by an electrical fault involving recycled batteries stored at the premises. Authorities said initial reports indicated that no injuries had been recorded.
