13th August 2026 – (Hong Kong) Chinese artificial-intelligence start-up DeepSeek is accelerating its push into intelligent agents, publicly unveiling a new Harness team and posting multiple job openings aimed at turning its models into products that can carry out complex work on their own — with Anthropic’s popular coding tool Claude Code squarely in its sights.
DeepSeek has opened a WeChat official account named DeepSeek Harness Team. Corporate records on Qichacha show the Beijing entity behind the account is controlled by DeepSeek, and the WeChat presence has been verified by Tencent (00700).
A recruitment notice says the team’s goal is to develop DeepSeek models into frontier intelligent-agent products. In industry jargon a “harness” is the software layer wrapped around a large language model that coordinates tool use, file reading and writing, data handling and multi-step workflows — moving the system from answering questions to completing tasks.
Claude Code is one such coding agent: it can read source code inside a terminal, edit files and handle programming chores. DeepSeek’s public team launch and hiring drive signal a faster conversion of model capability into agents that work directly rather than only chat.
On Wednesday DeepSeek also told its official WeChat community that flagship model V4 Pro has been updated to lift agent performance further. When the V4 preview launched in April the company already said the model was specially optimised for agents and could plug into Claude Code, OpenCode and OpenClaw; V4 is also used inside DeepSeek for internal coding work.
Official documentation still lists how users can connect DeepSeek models into Claude Code. The API supports Anthropic’s format, so some requests that once went to Claude can be routed to DeepSeek V4 Pro or V4 Flash instead — a compatibility bridge that helps the start-up court developers already living inside Anthropic’s tooling.
After ChatGPT ignited the generative-AI boom, competition has shifted from chatbots and base models toward agents that use tools, write code and finish multi-step jobs. DeepSeek’s Harness push puts it in that second-wave race, with Claude Code named as a primary product to beat.
