2nd November 2026 – (Hong Kong) Police this morning boxed in a Lexus private car on Hoi Wong Road in Tuen Mun after the vehicle struck a checkpoint gate within the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge area overnight and drove off, later linking the same car to a multi-vehicle smash in Pat Heung a day earlier.
Officers said that at 1.17am today a private car hit the barrier of an inspection booth on Shun Wan Road in the bridge precinct and left without stopping. A pursuit followed, with a Swift containment operation putting roadblocks on main routes across districts. The car was finally stopped on Hoi Wong Road at 11.08am. No prohibited items had been found in the vehicle when this report was filed; drug-detector dogs were being called in. The case is for now classified as reckless driving, and a 32-year-old local man has been arrested.
Before that stop, sources said the Airport Security Unit and Emergency Unit had already tried to intercept the Lexus, which broke through at least once. Using closed-circuit cameras under the Sharp Eye scheme, police tracked the car into Tuen Mun and mounted the Swift operation around the industrial area and the ferry pier, clearing pedestrians with traffic officers and laying several barriers.
The chase tightened when the car was spotted at the junction of Hang Fu Street and Hoi Wah Road. At the Hang Fu Street crossroads with Hoi Wing Road, hemmed in ahead, it drove through three Emergency Unit vehicles that had boxed the junction, pressed on along Hoi Wing Road and turned right into Hoi Wong Road. Officers who had already cleared the stretch U-turned in pursuit. Online clips show police cars sandwiching the Lexus at the Hoi Wing–Hoi Wong junction; it still broke out, swung hard right onto Hoi Wong Road and was finally gated near Tuen Yee Street, striking a roadside railing as Emergency Unit cars closed in.
Separately, the same Lexus is tied to collisions at about 2.39pm yesterday on Kam Tin Road in Pat Heung, near Ha Ko Po Tsuen, where it hit two private cars and two taxis before fleeing. A dashcam clip circulating online, time-stamped about 2.35pm, shows traffic halted under a flyover for road conditions when the Lexus came from behind and struck the rears of a green taxi and a black private car. After shoving the taxi forward several metres, it reversed, hit the two vehicles again and forced its way into gaps in an attempt to break free.
Police later contacted the registered owner of the Lexus, who is the arrested man’s father. The suspect reportedly had sought psychiatric care and had a key to the car. Under the law, anyone who drives recklessly or otherwise wilfully improperly, or with wilful neglect, so as to cause or risk bodily injury, commits an offence triable summarily or on indictment and liable to two years’ imprisonment.
