31st October 2026 – (Hong Kong) TVB’s anniversary gala is due on 19th November, and artists have been deep into rehearsals — but today’s Speed and Stunt run-through turned sharply tense when Brian Chu lost his footing after a wooden climbing frame gave way and he dropped about two metres onto his back.

Popular leading men Owen Cheung, Kalok Chow and Chu, were on the floor with rising actress Tiffany Lau to practise the night’s headline action segment, Speed and Stunt. The package is meant to be one of the show’s big physical set pieces, which is why the four were working the choreography in sports kit rather than eveningwear.

Circulating rehearsal footage shows Chu in all-black athletic gear attempting to climb a net when the wooden support suddenly collapsed as a whole. He lost his balance at once and fell to the ground from a height estimated at roughly two metres, landing hard with his back taking the impact — a moment that looked far more serious than a routine stunt miss.

Crew members closest to the set rushed in immediately, as did Chow and Lau, who had been rehearsing beside him when the frame went. The room’s focus snapped from polishing moves to checking whether Chu could move, speak and stand after the slam.

Luckily his reactions were quick. After a preliminary on-the-spot check he appeared to have no major injury, a relief given how heavily he had hit the floor. Colleagues stayed close while the prop was assessed and the rehearsal pause stretched longer than a normal reset between takes.

The scare underlines how even studio anniversary drills carry real risk when actors scale nets and temporary timber frames built for a televised dash. Speed and Stunt sells pace and physical guts on the night; the same structures can fail without warning if they cannot take the load mid-climb, which is exactly what the leaked clip appears to capture.

Cheung was also listed among those present for the session, rounding out a young cast TVB has been pushing hard into the anniversary’s more athletic beats. That the mishap hit during a full-group practice, rather than a private stunt double run, explains why the video travelled so quickly among viewers watching the build-up to the gala.
