28th June 2025 – (New York) Digital brokerage firm Robinhood has broadened its crypto services by launching micro futures contracts for Bitcoin, Solana, and XRP, enabling traders to engage in derivatives trading with reduced capital requirements. This latest development, introduced in the United States on Friday, builds upon Robinhood’s existing array of crypto futures products for Bitcoin and Ether.

Micro futures contracts represent smaller versions of standard futures contracts, providing traders with the opportunity to speculate on asset price movements with lower initial investments.

Robinhood, boasting over 25 million funded customer accounts, first ventured into crypto futures in January, initially focusing on Bitcoin and Ether. However, the platform’s expansion into spot cryptocurrency trading began back in 2018, steadily growing its presence in the sector.

To bolster its crypto offerings, Robinhood has strategically acquired key players in the industry. In June, the company concluded a $200 million acquisition of crypto exchange Bitstamp, securing over 50 licenses and registrations globally. Additionally, Robinhood acquired WonderFi in May, a Canadian firm managing regulated crypto trading platforms like Bitbuy and Coinsquare, collectively overseeing billions in customer assets.

These acquisitions underscore the increasing merger and acquisition activity within the crypto space, exemplified by significant transactions such as Coinbase’s $2.9 billion purchase of Deribit and Ripple’s $1.25 billion acquisition of prime broker Hidden Road. This trend reflects a growing consolidation within the industry, driven by challenging economic conditions and volatile markets, according to Santora lending head Patrick Heusser.
