31st May 2023 – (Shenyang) Richie Jen Hsien-chi, also known as the “King of Pop” in Taiwan, is currently on a tour, performing in different cities across China. On 28th May, as he performed in Shenyang, Liaoning province, he was surprised to meet a fan who claimed he had saved her life 22 years ago.

The 23-year-old woman approached the stage and told Jen that they had known each other for 22 years, adding that Jen had once held her when she was a baby. She then produced a photo of Jen holding her as a baby.

The woman revealed that she had a congenital heart disease when she was younger and her family was unable to afford her surgery. Jen had apparently donated RMB 30,000 (approximately USD 4,600) towards her surgery after seeing her story in the media. This act of kindness had saved her life.

Overwhelmed by the revelation, Jen hugged the woman and exclaimed, “You’ve grown so much!” The woman then requested Jen to sing “Don’t Change,” a song she had dedicated to him as a sign of her gratitude and appreciation.

After the concert, Jen took to social media to express his gratitude for the chance encounter. He wrote, “Meeting someone on the path of life can often be surprising and touching. I hope that this love will not only remain unchanged but also reach farther places.”

Jen is a renowned Taiwanese singer and actor who graduated from the Chinese Culture University’s physical education department. He signed a contract with Synco Cultural Corporation in 1990, while still a senior at CCU, and released his first album “Ask Again” in December of that year. He then released two more albums in 1991 before enlisting in the military.

In 1996, he joined Rock Records and released the album “I Feel Good!” which sold 160,000 copies. However, his breakthrough came with the release of the album “Too Softhearted” in 1998, which sold millions of copies, and the title track became popular in China and Taiwan.

Jen is also an accomplished actor and starred in the 1998 series “The Return of the Condor Heroes,” playing the lead role of Yang Guo. He has also released albums under EMI and East Asia Records.

In his personal life, Jen married former fashion designer Tina Chen in 2002, and they have two children together. They currently reside in Hong Kong.
