20th July 2025 – (Hong Kong) The severe weather brought by Typhoon Wipha has caused extensive damage across Hong Kong Island, with multiple buildings experiencing scaffolding collapses. A dramatic video circulating on social media captures the moment the exterior scaffold of the Sky Scraper building in North Point came crashing down. The footage shows the structure falling with a deafening noise, crushing vehicles parked within the estate, and vividly demonstrating the destructive power of the storm. One user remarked, “Wow, the power of Wipha,” while others commented, “Those who say there’s no wind are just lucky” and “Only fools would claim the storm isn’t strong.”
Earlier this morning, several collapses were reported in the North Point area. At Continental Mansion Car Park on Tin Hau Temple Road, an external scaffold over 100 metres long and nearly 20 metres high fell, blocking four traffic lanes. Emergency services quickly arrived to clear the debris, as firefighters worked tirelessly to remove the collapsed structure. The incidents highlight the immense impact of Typhoon Wipha as authorities continue responding to the widespread destruction.
