25th October 2026 – (Macao) Macao authorities have detained a 21‑year‑old male university student, a Macao resident surnamed Lui, on suspicion of stealing electronics valued at about MOP55,000 from a fellow male student from mainland China after reportedly finding the victim’s dormitory room door ajar in the Cotai area on 4th October. Investigators said the suspect, who lives in the same building but a different room and is not acquainted with the victim nor enrolled in the same programme, allegedly entered the unattended room, removed a laptop and other items, and left the premises.
Following enquiries, officers identified and arrested the suspect at midday on 22nd October and recovered most of the stolen electronic devices, while efforts continue to trace the remaining property. Officials stated there are strong indications of aggravated theft and have referred the case to the Public Prosecutions Office for further action.
