3rd November 2026 – (Hong Kong) The Central People’s Government announced that, acting under the Basic Law and on the recommendation of Chief Executive John Lee, it has approved the removal of Winnie Ho Wing‑yin from the post of Secretary for Housing. The decision follows Ms Ho’s resignation submitted on 28th October, in which she stated she would assume political responsibility for issues arising from the Wang Fuk Court fire.
Ms Ho, who joined the Government in 1992 and became Director of Architectural Services in 2020, was appointed Secretary for Housing in 2022 as a Principal Official of the sixth‑term administration. During her tenure, she drove initiatives to accelerate the delivery of Light Public Housing, targeted at around 30,000 units, and oversaw measures that reduced the Composite Waiting Time for Subsidised Rental Housing from 6.1 years to 4.8 years. She also led efforts to clamp down on abuses within public rental housing and steered the enactment of the Basic Housing Units Ordinance aimed at phasing out substandard subdivided flats in an orderly manner.
Chief Executive John Lee thanked Ms Ho for her service, noting her role in executing policy directives and advancing housing supply and governance reforms. He extended best wishes to Ms Ho upon her departure from office, expressing hope for her future endeavours and good health.
