16th October 2026 – (United Nations) The United Nations Security Council has delivered a strong condemnation of continued and escalating Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia, following a presidential statement issued on Thursday. The Security Council expressed serious concern over attacks affecting civilian aviation and energy facilities, underscoring their strong disapproval of operations targeting these critical sectors.
Council members also reiterated their condemnation of further Houthi attacks and threats targeting commercial shipping routes in the Red Sea and the Bab Al Mandeb strait. In their statement, they highlighted the urgent need to safeguard the safety of commercial vessels and their crews, emphasising the importance of adherence to international law – in particular, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea – and the protection of navigational rights and freedoms.
The Security Council further demanded that the Houthis immediately cease their military escalation in Yemen, underlining that lasting peace cannot be achieved through violence, coercion, or force. Council members reaffirmed their support for a political solution as the only sustainable path to resolving the conflict in Yemen, urging all parties to prioritise dialogue and peaceful engagement.
