22nd March 2024 – (Hong Kong) Wan Chai’s storied streets are set to welcome a touch of Italian glamour as the venerable Woo Cheong Pawn Shop transforms into the Sophia Loren House. This April, the Grade II historic building, dating back to 1888, will debut a new incarnation that pays homage to the iconic Italian actress and the effervescent era of ‘la dolce vita’.

Once home to a modern British eatery and various dining spots, the four-storey edifice is poised to open its doors as a tribute to the style and spirit of the 1960s and 1970s, immortalised by filmmakers like Federico Fellini.

The Woo Cheong Pawn Shop, a beacon of Wan Chai’s rich past, was designated a Grade II historic building in 2009. It previously played host to The Pawn, Crust Italian, and Woo Cheong Tea House. Now, as it gears up for its grand reopening, the building is set to invigorate the district with a fresh allure.

Sophia Loren House will offer patrons a quartet of distinctive venues, each with its unique flavour. Sophia Loren Pizzeria promises a relaxed atmosphere with authentic Neapolitan-style pizzas. Casa Sophia Loren, on the other hand, will cater to the discerning diner with a selection of elegant seafood dishes.

Adding to the venue’s allure is Stage, a live performance area that will resonate with the vibrancy of the 1970s artistic scene. For those seeking a nocturnal escape, Pellicola Rooftop offers a romantic outdoor setting ideal for evening libations with a view of the bustling tramways and Johnston Road below.
