23rd January 2024 – (Hong Kong) The sultry dance of open flame now takes centre stage on Hong Kong’s dining scene with the debut of Charcoal Bar. The latest concept by LUBUDS Group converts primal live fire cooking into a refined yet relaxed gourmet experience under acclaimed Executive Chef Bjoern Alexander. Located along the scenic Harbour City waterfront, Charcoal Bar spotlights sumptuous cuts of meat and seafood smoked over smouldering coals and fragrant wood. With a laid-back vibe and stylish setting, the restaurant invites guests to indulge in theatrical, smoke-infused preparations brought to life at flaming grills.

Charcoal Bar expands Hong Kongers’ taste for live fire cuisine, a global phenomenon spreading as top chefs unlock wood and charcoal’s potential. “There’s something mysteriously addictive about food kissed by smoke and flame,” said Chef Bjoern. “By carefully pairing premium proteins with fruit and nut woods, you achieve incredible depth while preserving natural flavors.” Beyond savoring smoky succulence, Charcoal Bar offers a lively gastro-theater experience, with the bustling show kitchen and energetic staff creating a convivial atmosphere.

The open kitchen stars custom Spanish Josper ovens for precise charcoal grilling. Surrounding countertop grills add smoky drama, fueling specialties like Lychee Wood Smoked Beef Ribs. From land, the menu traverses prime cuts like American Wagyu Sirloin and A5 Kagoshima Wagyu. Japanese King Crab, lobster, jumbo shrimp and fish like turbot and seabass headline the seafood offerings. Meticulous aging and hand-selection ensure peak flavor. Grilled delicacies take 20-30 minutes preparation; diners choose from four housemade sauces to complement each dish’s char.

Chef Bjoern blends global influences, applying live-fire mastery to Asia-sourced ingredients. The menu features grilled local chicken, eel and goose sausage with Acquerello rice. Beyond fiery starring plates, small bites include seared oysters and uni toast with wagyu beef. A dessert of charcoal-grilled pineapple with coconut ice cream encapsulates the restaurant’s tropical, beachy chic vibe.

Charcoal Bar’s relaxed-refined ambiance complements its culinary theatre. The elegant space juxtaposes warm wood, leather banquettes and metallic accents with floor-to-ceiling harbour views. “We want guests to enjoy the bustling energy of the open kitchen while kicking back in cozy but chic surroundings,” Chef Bjoern said.
