2nd October 2026 – (Hong Kong) Hong Kong entertainer Steven Cheung is facing renewed allegations over personal debts after a creditor, identifying himself as M, claimed he has been owed HK$70,000 for four years. In media interviews, M alleged that repeated appeals from Cheung since 2022 citing family hardship led him to lend sums ranging from a few hundred dollars to tens of thousands, but that promises of repayment were not honoured.
M said his most recent attempt to recover money was in May, when Cheung had resumed mainland stage appearances and livestreaming. According to M, Cheung produced a household disconnection notice showing an electricity charge of HK$9,489 for the period from 11th February to 10th April, and also referred to an outstanding water bill of about HK$2,000. M added that Cheung pledged to raise HK$10,000 by mid‑June but later blocked him on social media and by phone.
Cheung and his wife, Au Yin‑man, have previously discussed financial strain and marital tensions in an online interview, where Cheung insisted he would not file for bankruptcy and said he was taking manual work alongside occasional performances to support their family of four sons. Critics on social media have questioned household spending choices, to which Cheung has responded that certain items, such as hair dye, cost only a modest amount and were applied at home.
M further alleged that informal loans were made without signed acknowledgements, leaving little recourse, and claimed Cheung had repaid only a small fraction before borrowing again. Cheung has publicly asked creditors for forbearance, saying irregular income has limited his ability to clear arrears. The latest claims have intensified scrutiny of his finances, though Cheung has maintained that he intends to meet his obligations when his work allows.
