Launch of Australia’s food and beverage promotion in Hong Kong “Festival of Australia”

6th October 2020 – (Hong Kong) Dreaming of Australia? Want the best of Aussie food right here in Hong Kong? The largest ever Australian food and beverage promotion launches in Hong Kong this week, showcasing Australia’s premium, fresh products to Hong Kong consumers.

The Australian Government has partnered with the state governments of New South Wales, Queensland, Tasmania and South Australia, and with the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (AustCham) for “Festival of Australia” – a series of events from 6th October to 8th December.

The best of Australian gourmet food and beverages will be featured throughout Hong Kong during the eight-week festival.

Deputy Consul-General (Commercial) and Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner Shannon Powell will today officially kick-off the festival themed “From Australia with Love”.

Ms Powell said Australian products are winning new fans in Hong Kong and around the world and can increasingly be found on the menus of Michelin-starred restaurants, at high-end retailers, and in online stores.

“We want to bring the best Australian produce to the people of Hong Kong with love, and we hope Hong Kong residents appreciate the quality and freshness as much as we do.

“Australian products are manufactured under strict safety standards and strive for sustainability. Food producers are constantly innovating, introducing new flavours and concepts. We have something for everyone’s taste”, Ms Powell said.

Festival of Australia is supported by outlets including GREAT FOOD HALLTASTEMarket Place by JasonsJasons Food & Living3hreesixtyWellcome, and through online retailer HKTVmall. It also offers an Australian-inspired menu at PizzaExpress outlets.

On offer is traditional produce such as meat, including organic beef from Queensland, dairy, seafood such as hand-smoked Tasmania salmon, and the freshest of fruit and vegetables. Specialty products include olive oil, honey, confectionery, healthy snacks and beverages, including fruit juices from New South Wales pressed by a world-first technique that keeps the flavours, texture, vitamins and bioactive components unchanged.

More than 3,000 Australian products will be available online at HKTVmall and over 150 products can be found in retail outlets. 

The Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) has been instrumental in helping Australian farmers and fisheries exporters continue to reach key overseas markets, including Hong Kong, making the festival possible. Festival of Australia will become an annual celebration highlighting the best tastes of Australia in one of the gourmet capitals the world.
