3rd July 2020 – (Hong Kong) In January this year, Meter Chen, a creative local chef in high quality but affordable Japanese cuisine recently opened Kintaro Lab in Tai Kok Tsui which specialises in flat udon which resembles a piece of white cloth. The plus-size udon is the first of its kind in Hong Kong and it’s specially created by Meter Chen after many trials and errors. There are three types of soup base to go with the udon i.e. hot soup, Tsukemen-style soup and cold udon soup.
He recently opened another new outlet at 313, Lai Chi Kok Road and the udon is served differently e.g. Tsukemen, cold udon and various soup base. Beware of the daily queue and limited servings as the wait can be long during lunch hours and dinner time.
You can choose from fish, duck, plum, tempura and Japanese yam to go with your udon. Price ranges from HK$86 to HK$115 per serving.
