Three yachts moored at Kwun Tong Typhoon Shelter catch fire (Updated)

28th April 2020 – (Hong Kong) At around 2.30pm today, a yacht moored at Kwun Tong Typhoon Shelter caught fire. Smoke was seen billowing from the vessel and many residents in Kowloon Bay and Hong Kong Island saw the fire and called police for help. Fireboat arrived at the scene to put out the flames.

The boat subsequently sunk into the sea at 3.40pm after firemen put out the flames. Moments later, another 2 yachts moored next to it also caught fire and firemen put out the flames, two boats sunk into the sea while the third boat sunk halfway. At around 5pm, the half-sunk boat caught fire again and firemen returned to put out the flames again.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.

Meanwhile, a boat in Lung Kwu Tan in Tuen Mun also caught fire at around the same time. Fireboat arrived at the scene to put out the flames. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
