29th November 2023 – (Hong Kong) At approximately 7pm today, a woman was spotted sitting precariously on the railing of a pedestrian bridge spanning Tolo Highway near Chak Cheung Street, opposite the CUHK Medical Centre in Sha Tin. Concerned motorists promptly reported the situation to the authorities. Firefighters swiftly arrived at the scene, deploying inflatable life cushions on the road as a precautionary measure. They engaged in conversation with the woman, attempting to persuade her to reconsider her actions. Tragically, she suddenly leapt from the railing, plummeting onto a flower bed by the roadside, where she immediately lost consciousness. An ambulance rushed to the scene and swiftly transported her to Prince of Wales Hospital for urgent medical attention. According to preliminary reports, it is believed that the woman’s emotional distress, possibly stemming from relationship issues with her boyfriend, led to her desperate act.

The Transport Department has confirmed that due to the precarious situation involving the woman, Tolo Highway (towards Tai Po) near Chak Cheung Street was temporarily closed. At present, certain lanes in both directions of the affected area remain inaccessible. Motorists are advised to utilize the remaining lanes for their travels. The closure has resulted in heavy traffic congestion in the vicinity.
