16th September 2023 – (Hong Kong) A shocking incident of pickpocketing took place in Sham Shui Po, Hong Kong, where a woman was targeted by a gang of three men and women. The incident was captured on a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera, and the footage has been shared by a concerned netizen.
According to the video, the pickpocketing group consisted of two men and one woman who skilfully executed their crime by using a coordinated approach. The footage revealed that within a span of just 30 seconds, the female victim was pickpocketed twice without even realising it. Tragically, her iPhone was stolen during the course of the thefts.
The person who shared the video has since handed it over to the police for investigation. Following the theft, the female victim received a suspicious message claiming to be from the thief. The message stated that the stolen phone had been taken to a store for unlocking and authorisation, and the victim was asked to click on a link to confirm. Recognising this as a phishing attempt, as Apple phones cannot be unlocked by third parties with the owner’s authorisation, the victim urged others not to pay heed to such messages if they receive similar ones.
Some netizens have managed to identify one of the thieves in the video and suspect him of having a criminal record. They question whether he is a habitual offender involved in theft.
The netizen who shared the video expressed concern and warned others to remain vigilant and cautious in crowded places. It serves as a reminder for everyone to always be mindful of their belongings and take necessary precautions to safeguard their valuables.
