31st May 2023 – (Hong Kong) Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital (AHNH) reported a safety incident today regarding a facility in the hospital. According to the hospital’s spokesperson, the incident occurred at around 5.30pm after heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. The hospital’s security guard received a report that the windscreen of a staff member’s private vehicle was found broken in the hospital car park. Upon inspection, it was found that the incident might have been caused by the damaged concrete from the external wall of Block C at AHNH during the heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Fortunately, no patients or staff were injured in the incident, and patient service was not affected. The hospital cordoned off the parking area concerned and arranged for emergency repairs. The spokesperson confirmed that the incident did not involve the structural safety of the building. The hospital has also reported the incident to the Hospital Authority Head Office via the Advance Incident Reporting System.
According to the hospital, the external wall concerned had no abnormalities during the last facility check conducted in April. The hospital is very concerned about the incident and has arranged maintenance staff to conduct inspections for facilities. The hospital is also investigating the root cause of the damaged concrete.
