18th January 2023 – (Hong Kong) Junket king Alvin Chau was arrested in Macao in November in 2021 and charged with 289 counts of establishing and leading a criminal syndicate, money laundering and operating an illegal gambling. He was sentenced this morning (18th) bto 18 years in prison. His wife, Heidi Chan attended the court last year when Chau was imprisoned to show support and to quash the rumour that the two were divorced. She even celebrated the 26th birthday of Alvin’s son Chau Pak-ho from the first marriage.
2 months ago, Chan also revealed that her eldest daughter Virginia Chau is studying in the U.K. It is rumoured that Chan sold the entire floor in On Lok Yuen Building on Des Voeux Road in Central last year. The total area of about 3,893 square feet, was sold for about HK$69 million , or about HK$17,700 per square foot. The property was originally purchased by CHINA PLUS TRADING LIMITED for more than HK$101 million in 2018. Chan Wai-leng (Heidi Chan), the director of the company, has held the property for nearly four years. She lost a total of HK$32 million or 32% in transaction value.
She started to promote her co-working space business on her Instagram account after her husband was imprisoned last year but as of today, her Instagram account has become private.
Meanwhile, Alvin Chau’s ex-mistress, Mandy Lieu mortgaged the apartment they shared together at Argenta, Mid-Levels 20 days ago before Chau was arrested. The apartment has a market value of HK$120 million and it was pledged to Melco Resorts (Macau) Limited owned by Lawrence Ho Yau Lung as security including general credit facilities.
