Widespread heavy rain continues to affect Hong Kong, Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal issued at 1.05pm


5th August 2022 – (Hong Kong) At 12.40pm, Hong Kong Observatory announced that widespread heavy rain would affect Hong Kong shortly. Amber Rainstorm Warning Signal has been issued at 1.05pm.

With the strengthening of the anticyclone aloft, showers will lessen over Guangdong in the next couple of days. An area of low pressure over the central part of the South China Sea is expected to develop into a tropical cyclone early next week, and move in the general direction of the vicinity of western Guangdong and Hainan Island, but there are uncertainties in its track and intensity. Under the influence of its outer rainbands, it will be windy with squally showers and thunderstorms over the northern part of the South China Sea and the coast of Guangdong midweek next week.

It will be mainly cloudy with showers and squally thunderstorms today. Showers will be heavy at times. Moderate to fresh southerly winds.
