West Kowloon unveils ‘Ephemeral’: A monumental art installation

22nd March 2024 – (Hong Kong) The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) is celebrating the second week of its inaugural WestK FunFest with the recent unveiling of ‘Ephemeral’, a colossal outdoor art installation. The installation, which has already garnered international acclaim, is set to be a cornerstone attraction at the Harbourside Lawn East in the Art Park of the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD). Manulife Hong Kong has taken the lead sponsorship role for the WestK FunFest, with Cathay serving as the official travel partner.

‘Ephemeral’, a transient beauty that has captivated audiences in over 40 cities including London, Sydney, Singapore, and Brussels, is now making its Hong Kong debut. The installation has been celebrated with the second prize at the International Architecture & Design Awards by the Architecture and Design Community, amongst four other awards in 2022. The Hong Kong edition introduces ‘Colossal’, a new feature specifically conceived for the Festival that harmoniously integrates with the District’s iconic harbour views. With bespoke lighting and soundscapes, ‘Ephemeral’ promises to deliver a dynamic visual symphony that changes with the shifting daylight, offering a unique and enveloping artistic experience.

Starting from tomorrow until the 7th of April, admission-free, ‘Ephemeral’ is expected to be a focal point for both local and international visitors during the Easter Holiday and Children’s Day. The installation’s interplay with light transforms it into a living work of art, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in a constantly evolving spectacle.

In conjunction with the exhibition of ‘Ephemeral’, the Festival will also host a variety of food and beverage booths from 29th March to 7th April. These booths will be located at both the east and west ends of the Harbourside Lawn and will offer an eclectic mix of culinary delights. Patrons can indulge in local favourites such as egg waffles and Takoyaki, as well as vegan options and a selection of craft beers and non-alcoholic drinks.

Furthermore, attendees of any WestK FunFest events will be entitled to enjoy exclusive dining discounts across the West Kowloon Cultural District. Participating venues include the Art Park, Freespace, the Hong Kong Palace Museum, M+, Xiqu Centre, and the food trucks peppered throughout the Art Park. This gastronomic complement to the artistic offerings underscores the Festival’s commitment to delivering a comprehensive cultural experience.
