18th September 2026 – (Singapore) Waymo, a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc and a leader in autonomous driving technology, has announced plans to debut its fully autonomous ride-hailing service in Singapore by 2028. This initiative marks the company’s first foray into Southeast Asia. On 18th September, Waymo revealed it will partner with Singapore’s Ministry of Transport and the Land Transport Authority to establish the necessary groundwork for an all-electric commercial service. Commuters will be able to book rides through the dedicated Waymo app once the service is operational.
The company indicated that the first batch of vehicles is scheduled to arrive in Singapore in the coming months, with Jaguar I-PACE electric vehicles selected for the initial fleet as local operations are set up. During the initial readiness phase next year, specially trained autonomous specialists will manually operate the vehicles while the Waymo Driver system adapts to Singapore’s road networks and varying weather, including monsoon conditions.
