18th March 2023 – (Hong Kong) In the early hours of today (18th), police officers patrolling near Riley House at 143 Wo Yi Hop Road in Kwai Chung came across a white seven-seater vehicle parked illegally on double yellow lines. The male driver was seen holding a lunch box while eating, prompting the officers to approach and issue a ticket.
Eyewitnesses on the scene reported that two officers got out of their vehicle, with the driver standing by as backup. One officer then approached the seven-seater to request the driver’s licence and identification documents. However, upon handing over the documents, the male driver reportedly threw his lunch box out of the vehicle and sped off, crashing into the officers’ vehicle before driving away. The collision caused the officers’ vehicle to be pushed forward and onto the pedestrian walkway, before hitting a bus stop rail and coming to a stop.
During the commotion, one of the officers was injured and was subsequently taken to hospital. The incident is now being treated as a case of “reckless driving”, with law enforcement personnel currently searching for a local male suspect aged between 40 and 50 years old, who is said to have a muscular build, short black hair and was wearing a white short-sleeved shirt at the time of the incident. It is believed that the suspect is being sought for unpaid fines.
