12th October 2021 – (Hong Kong) At nearly 5am today (12th), a taxi carrying a foreign passenger drove along Queen’s Road West and the 50-year-old taxi driver in the vehicle was suspected of arguing with the passenger for some reason. The foreign passenger then used a hard object to hit the neck of the driver which resulted in injuries. In order to escape, he got off the car and fled.
The passenger then got off the vehicle and continued to attack the taxi driver before he finally collapsed. When the taxi driver was about 20 metres away, the assailant also took the opportunity to escape. Afterwards, a passer-by called the police for help.
Police officers sped to the scene and found the 48-year-old man lying unconscious on the floor. Sustaining serious injury to his neck, he was rushed to Queen Mary Hospital and was certified dead at 6.17am.
Police said that the deceased had been a taxi driver for more than ten years, and his right proximal aorta had a wound about 7cm long and 2cm deep, and he was bleeding heavily, which could not be ruled out as the cause of death. However, the actual cause of death has yet to be determined by an autopsy. The deceased had no property loss, and his personal belongings were still left on or on the taxi, and the taxi also had video recording equipment. The photo of the wanted murderer was also exposed. He has light white skin and he could be mixed race. He is about 30 years old, about 1.78 meters tall, and has black hair. He was wearing a black short-sleeved shirt, dark shorts, sport shoes and dark colours at the time of the crime. It is not ruled out that he still has weapon on his body, Police recovered more evidence at a back alley near Eastern Street including coat, mask and towel, all stained with blood stains in nearby public toilet. The suspect entered and left a nearby hotel and police found a backpack on the rooftop of a nearby building containing blood-stained mask and a kitchen knife about 25 cm long which is believed to be related to the case. The police will investigate the mental condition of the murderer to further determine the motive of the crime.
In addition, the police appealed to the public to stay in a safe place and contact the police if they see a suspicious person suspected of being involved in the case or if there is information about the case. The deceased’s sister said that the deceased was very caring for his family during his lifetime and was the breadwinner of the family. He had 1 son and 2 daughters, 9 years old, 13 years old and 18 years old. The eldest daughter had just been admitted to Chinese University of Hong Kong.
The police have classified the assailant as an extremely dangerous person and he is currently wanted. By 2 o’clock in the afternoon, detectives were tracking him on Second Street in Western District. The suspect was believed to be an extremely dangerous person with suspected violence tendency.
