Wang Yi calls on U.S. to adopt constructive role in Middle East

12th April 2024 – (Beijing) Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called on the United States to adopt a constructive role in the Middle East during a phone conversation with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. This plea came following a contentious episode earlier this month, where Israel is alleged to have launched a deadly attack on the Iranian embassy in Syria.

The Chinese foreign ministry confirmed that during the call, Wang vehemently condemned the attack, emphasising the sanctity of diplomatic spaces and the sovereignty of nations such as Iran and Syria. In response to the rising tensions, Wang also highlighted the urgent need to de-escalate the ongoing conflict in Gaza, urging all involved parties to cease hostilities immediately to avert a humanitarian crisis.
