31st August 2026 – (Beijing) In Beijing on Monday, Wang Huning, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, met with Walter Rosenkranz, president of Austria’s National Council, for official discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral ties. The meeting underscored the significance of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Austria, which both sides described as a milestone and an opportunity to advance the strategic partnership first initiated by their heads of state in 2018.
Wang Huning reiterated the importance of acting on the consensus previously reached by Chinese and Austrian leaders, pointing to high-level visits as a cornerstone for enhancing mutual political trust and for further practical cooperation. He emphasised the need to build closer connections not only between political institutions but also across people-to-people and cultural exchanges. Wang stated that the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference remains committed to deepening its friendly exchanges with Austria, contributing to the broader development of bilateral relations.
Walter Rosenkranz highlighted that since the establishment of diplomatic relations, China and Austria have maintained mutual equality and their friendship has grown continuously. He remarked that frequent recent high-level exchanges demonstrate the vitality and ongoing depth of bilateral engagement. Rosenkranz reaffirmed Austria’s adherence to the one-China policy and expressed Austria’s readiness to pursue further practical cooperation to promote new progress within the strategic partnership, signalling continued commitment to the positive trajectory of China-Austria relations.
