22nd April 2021 – (Hong Kong) If you want to enjoy the adrenalin of running below the cable car, you should try hiking on the Ngong Ping 360 Rescue Trail – a 6-kilometre trail in Lantau Island Hong Kong leading to the Big Buddha. Along the way, not only you will enjoy the cable car view but you can also catch a glimpse of the flights taking off at the Chek Lap Kok airport even though there are not many now due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The trail was originally built to service the cable cars throughout the whole trail but hikers can now enjoy the breathtaking view of the Lantau island.

Directions:

Go to Exit A of Tung Chung MTR Station and you will reach Citygate Outlets and head towards Tat Tung Road. Turn right at Tat Tung Road and walk towards Shun Tung Road. Turn left and go towards Yu Tung Road where you pass by Yat Tung Estate. Go below a pedestrian overhead footbridge and on the right, you will see a river. Go around the river and follow the direction towards Tung O Ancient Trail and Sha Lo Wan.

Follow the path around this river.

You will cross a bridge as you continue walking.

When you see the Ngong Ping 360 rescue trail sign, turn left and ascend the staircase. The beginning of the trail is very tedious as there are many flights of stairs. Take regular breaks as the hike up the stairs may be very exhausting especially when the weather is hot.

Keep going up and don’t miss out the little hilltop on the right of the cable car where a helipad is located. On top of the peak, you will be able to catch a glimpse of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge. Keep following the trail and you will reach the Ngong Ping Village on top. You can take the cable car to go down or take Bus No.23 to go back back to Tung Chung.
