29th April 2025 – (Hong Kong) For those seeking adventure, the Yuen Tsuen Ancient Trail presents a captivating journey along an historic trading route between Tsuen Wan and Yuen Long, reflecting the area’s agricultural heritage. This 12.5-kilometre forested trail, located within Tai Lam Country Park, begins at Ha Fa Shan and meanders through varied terrain, ultimately leading to Tai Tong. Hikers are treated to stunning views of the iconic Tsing Ma Bridge as they traverse this once-frequented path by local villagers. The trail is now well-paved, featuring short stretches of dirt, rest areas, and picnic spots. Along the way, consider taking detours for enhanced views of the landscape, including ascents to Ha Fa Shan and Shek Lung Kung, as well as passing the abandoned Li Fa Shan public school. The hike concludes at Sham Tseng, where you can savour local delicacies, such as charcoal-roasted goose.
Notable attractions along the trail include breathtaking sights of Tsing Yi, the Tsing Ma Bridge, Ting Kau Bridge, and even Tai Mo Shan on particularly clear days. To reach the trailhead, take the Tsuen Wan Line to Mei Foo Station, transfer to the West Rail Line, and alight at Tsuen Wan West (Exit E2). At the minibus terminus, board green minibus 95 and disembark at the Tsuen Wan Adventist Hospital bus stop. Alternatively, you can take buses 39M, 30, or 30X towards Allway Gardens, stopping at the same bus stop. While the trail has evolved from its rugged origins, remnants of its past remain visible, including abandoned houses, family graves, and farmland.
