26th March 2023. (Beijing) Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has postponed his scheduled visit to China due to health reasons. According to a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson, the Brazilian side has informed China of the decision to delay President Lula’s visit. The spokesperson added that China respects and understands this decision.
In response to the news, the Chinese side expressed their concern for President Lula’s health and wished him a speedy recovery. The spokesperson noted that China values the relationship between the two countries and will continue to stay in communication with Brazil regarding the visit.
President Lula’s visit to China was set to strengthen the economic and trade ties between the two nations. The trip was expected to include discussions on a range of issues, including trade, investment, and technology cooperation.
The postponement of the visit has come as a disappointment to both sides, as they have been working towards strengthening their bilateral relations. However, both countries have expressed their commitment to continuing their cooperation and collaboration.
President Lula, who is 77 years old, has had a history of health issues. In 2011, he was diagnosed with throat cancer and underwent chemotherapy. He has also undergone several surgeries in recent years. However, his health condition is currently unknown.
Brazil and China have a strong economic relationship, with China being Brazil’s largest trading partner. In 2020, China accounted for over 33% of Brazil’s total exports, primarily consisting of agricultural products and raw materials.
