25th February 2024 – (Richmond) Violet Lee, a retired Hong Kong actress, has tragically passed away today in Canada at the age of 70. It has been reported that Lee, who had relocated to Canada, recently returned to Hong Kong to celebrate the Lunar New Year. However, she suffered a fall at her residence in Richmond, and despite her friends’ offers to help, she declined their assistance. This morning, when her friends were unable to reach her, they went to her home and found Lee feeling unwell and nauseous. Although she was conscious, her speech was unclear, and she had bruises on her face. The authorities were immediately alerted, and medical professionals performed emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before rushing her to the hospital. Unfortunately, she could not be saved.

Media outlets have reached out to Damian Lau, an actor who was previously in a relationship with Lee, for verification. Lau confirmed that they had maintained contact but stated that he had not heard about Lee’s illness. He expressed the need to gather more information regarding the situation.

Violet Lee, known for her captivating appearance, was persuaded by a friend to audition for the TVB Artistes’ Training Course in the 1970s. She became classmates with Damian Lau and Michael Miu. After graduation, she joined the dubbing team, providing voices for animated films, before officially embarking on her acting career. Lee starred in numerous popular TV dramas and quickly rose to prominence as a leading actress.

Lee was in a seven-year relationship with Damian Lau before marrying businessman Shen Haijian in 1984, just a few months after they started dating. They immigrated to Canada in 1988 and had two daughters together. Unfortunately, their marriage ended after only eight years, and Lee single-handedly took care of their children. In 2003, she returned to Hong Kong and continued to participate in TV dramas and films. Last year, she made a cameo appearance as a grandmother in the movie “Twelve Days.” Lee had vowed to never retire and expressed her willingness to act as long as there were suitable roles available.
