Very Hot Weather Warning takes effect as Sheung Shui records a high of 37.9°C

2nd June 2023 – (Hong Kong) The Guangdong coast is experiencing extreme heat as a result of the high-altitude anticyclone. Today, temperatures in various areas of Hong Kong rose to 35 degrees Celsius or above. According to the regional weather forecast, as of 4.20pm, the Observatory recorded the highest temperature of 35.2 degrees Celsius. The hottest areas were Sha Tin, which reached a high of 37.9 degrees Celsius, followed by Tai Lam, which recorded a high of 37.4 degrees Celsius.

An extreme heat warning is currently in effect, and the Observatory is reminding citizens to be vigilant and take precautions against heatstroke or other heat-related illnesses. It is essential to pay attention to one’s physical condition during this period of extreme heat. At 4pm, Typhoon Mawar was located approximately 380 kilometres southeast of Kagoshima and was expected to move northeastward at a speed of around 36 kilometres per hour, passing through the waters south of Japan.
