26th September 2023 – (Sydney) In recent news, the durability of the back glass on the new iPhone 15 series has come into question. Several drop-test videos by popular YouTubers have highlighted the potential vulnerability of the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s back glass panel under certain conditions.

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are known for their sleek design and advanced features. Apple has incorporated its Ceramic Shield material to enhance durability, along with a combination of Grade 5 titanium and aluminium sub-structure to ensure both strength and lightness. However, the drop-test videos circulating online have shed light on a different aspect of the new iPhones.

YouTuber Sam Kohl, known for his channel Apple Track, flew to Australia to obtain the iPhone 15 early and conduct a drop test comparison with the iPhone 14 Pro. The YouTuber repeatedly dropped both models to assess their durability. Initially, both phones seemed to withstand the drops quite well. However, as the test progressed, the iPhone 15 Pro showed signs of damage, while the iPhone 14 Pro remained functional.

Additionally, renowned YouTuber JerryRigEverything performed various durability tests on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. These tests included scratch testing, exposing the devices to heat, and even using sandpaper. Surprisingly, during one of the tests, when pressure was applied to the back of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the back glass shattered within seconds.

JerryRigEverything expressed his surprise, stating, “You’ve been watching me durability test smartphones for about 11 years now, and most phones do not break. iPhones especially do not break, like ever. And [the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s] snap was abnormally quick.”

The incidents caught the attention of social media users who expressed their concerns. One user commented, “Damn that break was shocking,” while another shared, “Damn I was not expecting that back glass to crack with so little pressure lol. I think mine and Zack’s jaws probably dropped at the same time.”

Another user sarcastically remarked, “Apple: ‘Back glass replacements are now cheaper.’ Glass breaks 5x more.”

Meanwhile, Apple claims that the iPhone 15 Pro offers a full day of use, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max boasts even longer battery life. The devices also support the Qi2 standard, enabling faster wireless charging speeds, as stated by the company.
