4th September 2026 – (Hong Kong) United States Vice President JD Vance announced that an investigation is under way into claims that a military strike attributed to the US struck a wedding gathering in southern Iran. Speaking during a briefing at the White House, Vice President Vance emphasised that the US takes such reports seriously and is determined to understand the circumstances, affirming that any errors by military personnel are studied in order to improve future operations.

The inquiry comes after Iranian officials reported that, on Tuesday evening, a missile attack hit a home in Sirik County, Hormozgan province, where many guests had assembled to celebrate a local fisherman’s daughter’s wedding. The incident reportedly left at least four people dead and sixty-eight injured. The US military’s Central Command spokesperson, Tim Hawkins, confirmed that the event is undergoing a detailed examination.

Accusations were made by the Iranian Foreign Ministry, whose spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei described the strike as part of what he called a desperate effort by the United States to obscure recent setbacks. The latest episode follows another tragic event said to have occurred on 28th February, the first day of hostilities between the United States, Israel, and Iran, in which an attack struck a girls’ primary school in Minab, also in southern Iran. Iranian authorities stated that the earlier strike killed one hundred and sixty-eight people, most of whom were children, and attributed the attack to a US-made Tomahawk missile. Official investigations into both incidents remain ongoing amid international concern.
