Unidentified woman’s body found floating in New Yau Ma Tei Typhoon Shelter

3rd April 2024 – (Hong Kong) Yesterday morning, around 9am, a passerby in New Yau Ma Tei Typhoon Shelter noticed a suspicious object floating approximately 1.2 kilometres off the coast of Hai Fai Road. Concerned that someone might be in distress, the individual promptly reported the incident to the authorities.

Law enforcement officers swiftly responded to the call and observed that the object was drifting towards Stonecutters Island. They immediately alerted rescue vessels to the scene for retrieval. Firefighters successfully rescued a female individual from the water, but upon examination, it was tragically confirmed that she had already passed away. The authorities then transported the victim’s body back to the shore and later had it conveyed to the mortuary.

No suicide note was discovered at the scene. Following an investigation, it is believed that the deceased is a woman aged between 40 and 59, approximately 1.5 meters tall, with short-cropped hair. The exact cause of her death is pending confirmation after a post-mortem examination.
