U.K. is concerned about their consulate official from H.K. detained in mainland China for over 10 days

20th August 2019 – (Hong Kong) Simon Cheng Man-kit, a trade and investment officer at the Hong Kong consulate’s Scottish Development International section has gone missing after he was reportedly detained in China when he was returning to Hong Kong on 8th August. He has since lost contact with his family members and his last message was ‘PRAY FOR ME’ sent to his girlfriend.

The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office said that they are extremely concerned that a member of their team has gone missing and they are currently providing support to their family. Meanwhile, they are trying to communicate with the authorities in Guangdong Province and Hong Kong.

Simon has disappeared for over 10 days after the pro-democracy movements in Hong Kong intensified. It is unsure if he was involved in any of the protests.
