Two Filipino men arrested for assaulting an Indian man and attacking police officers at Citygate Outlets in Tung Chung

10th April 2024 – (Hong Kong) At 3.40am today, a security officer at Citygate Outlets in Tung Chung reported the presence of two Filipino men acting suspiciously across the mall.

Police officers responded to the report and arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation. Upon approaching the individuals, it was observed that both men showed signs of alcohol consumption. Further investigation revealed that one of the Filipino men, aged 23, allegedly assaulted a 59-year-old Indian man with a beer can in a separate incident earlier at the MTR Tung Chung Station before fleeing the scene. During the course of the investigation, both Filipino men refused to cooperate. The 23-year-old suspect exhibited signs of emotional distress and physically pushed down one of the police officers. The aforementioned Filipino man was subsequently arrested on charges of “assault” and “assaulting a police officer,” while his 25-year-old companion was arrested on charges of “obstructing a police officer in the execution of duty.”

The assaulted police officers and the injured Indian man sustained injuries to their respective lower limbs and backs. They remained conscious and were transported to North Lantau Hospital for medical treatment.
